Program Outline
DAY 1
Morning arrival (train or private car), settle into accommodation.
Your accommodation in Orvieto is in the centre of the ancient city with all services and amenities right on your doorstep - quiet, private and secure. Introduction to the city services etc on the way to lunch.
LIGHT LUNCH INCLUDED - with an introduction to Orvietani wines in a convivial “cantina” on the Cathedral square and a light lunch (short language course: “Survival Italian” during lunch).
DINNER INCLUDED – together with your hosts at our favourite trattoria specializing in Umbrian cuisine and, in particular, the white truffle and the cinghiale (wild boar).
DAY 2
MORNING: Guided walking tour of the City of Orvieto and the Medieval Quarter– discovering the city’s hidden secrets - with an introduction to the many sites and monuments within the city that may be visited during free time activities - finishing up with a visit to some of the private caves and a morning coffee.
Lunch is not included on this day
AFTERNOON: Guided visit to the Cathedral and the San Brizio Chapel with the famous Signorelli frescoes.
DINNER INCLUDED – together with your hosts at great venue near Orvieto, “off the rock”. This is a “Tastings Dinner” that includes the wines produced at their own vineyard
DAY 3
A FREE DAY to enjoy all there is to offer in this wonderful city on the rock
Lunch and dinner are not included on this day but a list of suggested restaurants will be provided and bookings made if you like.
DAY 4
THE LAKE AT BOLSENA & THE “DYING CITY” OF CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO
MORNING: Drive to Bolsena, guided visit to the small, communal museum of La Rocca Monaldeschi di Cervara with its ancient links to the Etruscan city of Volsiini (Orvieto), with great views across the lake
LUNCH INCLUDED – at a trattoria in Bolsena, specialising in delicate fish dishes from the lake and from the close by Tyrrhenian Sea.
AFTERNOON: Drive onto Civita di Bagnoregio for a wander up the long and spectacular foot-bridge into the city that clings to life, high on its rocky precipice and the chance to view the extraordinary and yet simple life of the few remaining townsfolk who refuse to abandon it.
Return to Orvieto
Dinner is not included on this day but we can make suggestions if you want
to dine out and make the booking for you.
DAY 5: Depart Orvieto - assistance to the station or as decided - it is also possible to arrange a car & driver to transfer to your next destination.
