At the very beginning of your stay, this program shows you that there is no better way to discover the amazing city of Orvieto than by a guided walk through the medieval quarter, an area often missed by large group tours. What you will discover as you are guided through the streets of the modern day city is that you never lose touch with history, a living history that continues to grow today.
You also get to experience the many fascinating regions close by with gentle explorations into the surrounding landscape that rolls around the Paglia River valley and introduces you to the very special wines, oils and other local produce that play such a significant role in defining the characteristics of the Orvietani and the pride they take in their long heritage of viniculture and olive oil production. This is a land that is particularly suited to viniculture and to the growing of olives, producing excellent Umbrian wines and oils, using methods that are both simple and natural.

HISTORY, ART, CULTURE & FOOD: A PERSONAL DISCOVERY

This very comprehensive program begins in Rome a journey through the foundation of the great Roman Empire and get to explore the great Eterna through its Christian beginnings through to the latest, inspiring Baroque masters.  From there we move onto your home-base of Orvieto with its fascinating history that encapsulates all. Finally, we end up in Florence at the feet of the greatest Master of them all - Michelangelo.
We have included some great eating opportunities in genuine restaurants and family-run trattorie, some in very “out-of-the-way” places where only the locals go to eat. Our first meal in Rome is one of these.  In Orvieto there are more than 100 eateries of various kinds “on the rock” and we will introduce you to our selected favourites.  From a broad selection of daily excursions combining art, history, great food, local wines, there are many opportunities to see some amazing sites, monuments and villages not normally accessible to the everyday tourist.

TIME OUT - ORVIETO

What a great way to begin your Italian/European journey, with a gentle introduction to the Italian way of life through this amazing Medieval city, sitting high on the tufa rock. With time to recover from your flight and time to meet these generous, warm-hearted people and to experience the culture, art and food right on your doorstep, you will settle quickly into the daily routine. You will be led also to a discovery of this fascinating city with a guided walk through the medieval quarter, an area often missed by large group tours. What you will discover as you are guided through the streets of the modern day city is that you never lose touch with history, a living history that continues to grow today. In the afternoon, you will have a guided tour of this most impressive cathedral with the famed Signorelli frescoes
You also get to experience the countryside around “the rock” with an excursion to Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe and to the incredible city of Civita di Bagnoregio, a city clinging to life, that is simply not to be missed.
Then, refreshed and comfortable with your new environment, you can begin the rest of your journey.
